The twelve houses, explained without mysticism

Houses answer "where in life," the way signs answer "in what style." They are a twelve-fold division of the sky anchored to the horizon at your exact birth moment and place — which is why birth time matters: the whole grid rotates a full circle every 24 hours, changing rising sign roughly every two hours.

The first house begins at the ascendant (the zodiac degree rising in the east). Houses 1 through 12 then cover: self; money; communication; home; creativity; work and health; partnership; shared assets; belief and travel; career; networks; and retreat. A planet "in" a house directs its energy at that life area.

starscore uses Placidus houses (the common Western default) for natal charts and whole-sign solar houses for the daily sign horoscopes — the honest generic method when individual birth times are unknown.

No birth time? Charts still work — positions, aspects, nakshatra and dashas survive — but houses and the ascendant are omitted rather than guessed.
